This Year’s Corporate Christmas Cards: Am I a Grinch or Just Lazy?

by Clarissa M. on March 16, 2010

So I have a dilemma: to send or not to send corporate Christmas cards? Christmas is approaching fast, and I have not yet started my holiday greetings. While some of my friends and relatives dove into the Christmas activities the day after Thanksgiving, I am still trying to get into gear.

I usually enjoy preparing my business holiday cards. I’ll a grab a stack and my mailing list, pour a glass of wine or make some hot cocoa, sit in my comfy chair in front of the TV, and bang them out in one night. But this year I haven’t even purchased my Christmas cards yet. (As a side note, getting a Christmas tree is still on my To-Do list!) What is my problem? I swear I’m not being “Grinchy.” I think I’m simply experiencing a general laziness and malaise after a very busy fall season.

Hopefully other people are more motivated than I am! Cutting corners during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is understandable, but forgoing corporate holiday cards and Christmas cards would be a shame. I think many people look forward to opening their mailboxes in anticipation of tangible holiday greetings from their friends, family and colleagues in the form of Christmas cards. Even when I receive corporate holiday cards from my dentist and bank, I still enjoy opening that mail and checking out what kind of designs grace the covers. Christmas cards help reconnect me with friends and family that I do not hear from very often. And of course, I love receiving photo Christmas cards of my nieces and nephews. Sending Christmas cards is a time-honored tradition that should not go out of fashion.

Maybe once I stop lallygagging and truly commit to Christmas, I’ll roll with it all more easily. I just started decorating my house a bit by draping garland down my stairwell, putting up the Christmas stockings and hanging a wreath on my front door. Christmas cards are the next logical step, right?

I think I just talked myself into it!
