When Taking Photos, Remember the Office at the Office Christmas Party

One big challenge for human resources professionals can come at the event most employees look forward to: the Office Christmas Party. It is usually a celebratory time at most companies where the employees are seen in a different light than the average Monday morning workday.

A human resources representative in the company may be too busy to take photographs at a party. If you need help creating the company scrapbook, here are a few guidelines:

  1. Make sure you trust the person holding the camera. If the photographer cannot be you, find someone else who you know will take good pictures and make sure that people are in politically correct poses. Instruct the photographer that you are looking for photos that are tame enough to be sent in a family photo Christmas card.
  1. Always ask permission. There will be people who will not be afraid to tell you that they do not care for you taking their picture. Also, try not to call on someone who had experience as a paparazzi photographer.
  1. These photos represent your company. The digital photos taken at a company party have potential to take on a life of their own. These photos may be shared with coworkers, shown in a company newsletter or seen by clients or vendors so avoid taking pictures that are inappropriate.
  1. Most importantly, remember that the party should be a good time, where an employee can look back and smile at the digital photos taken instead of worrying about making the local tabloids.
